The All-Ukrainian Council of Churches has appealed to believers around the world to oppose the evil of war

On July 8, 2025, in Kyiv, the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations issued an appeal to the global community of believers, calling on them not to remain silent in the face of Russian aggression against Ukraine and to support truth, justice, and humanity.

In the document, the Council of Churches emphasized that Russia’s war of aggression has brought immeasurable suffering to the Ukrainian people—mass destruction, shootings and torture, persecution of believers in the occupied territories, closure of churches and houses of prayer, abduction of children, criminal treatment of prisoners of war, and millions of ruined lives.

The Religious Council is particularly concerned about the latest stage of the war, when Russia is even more actively shelling peaceful cities far from the front lines, while a significant part of the international community, despite understanding the threats of the “Russian world,” prefers not to act decisively. This, as stated in the appeal, only encourages the aggressor to commit new crimes.

“Peace is not just silence after the shots, but the restoration of justice, dignity, and the right of the people to determine their own destiny,” the statement said.

The All-Ukrainian Council of Churches called on believers in democratic countries, the clergy, and all people of good will to speak out together with the voice of truth—through prayer, public pressure, diplomatic and humanitarian means.

“Only when evil is condemned, not rewarded, is there a real prospect for peace,” the religious leaders emphasize.

The Council called for prayer and action to stand together in defense of the spiritual and moral foundations of human civilization.
