UCCRO condemns Russia’s terrorist attacks during Easter: “Nothing is sacred for them”

The All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations issued a statement in which it strongly condemned the latest wave of terror of the Russian Federation against the civilian population of Ukraine, which continues even on the days of great religious significance – Jewish Passover and Christian Easter.

The statement says that during the holiday season, Russian troops are attacking Ukrainian cities and villages daily with drones, missiles and bombs. Among the affected settlements are Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro, Sumy, Kharkiv and others. The attacks have resulted in numerous civilian casualties, destroyed residential buildings, churches and social infrastructure.

“The state, which proudly calls itself ‘Holy Rus’, demonstrates a complete lack of respect not only for human life, but also for the holiest days for Jews and Christians,” the heads of the churches emphasize.

Particularly symbolic in this context is the fact that this year Easter was celebrated simultaneously by all Christian denominations – Orthodox, Catholics and Protestants. In addition, 2025 marks the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, a key event in the history of Christianity.

“We, the leaders of the Churches and religious organizations of Ukraine, call on the international community, in particular the leading states, to act decisively: to stop Russian aggression and help Ukraine protect the lives of its citizens. We also appeal to all people of goodwill to pray for the triumph of truth, just peace and the victory of good,” the statement reads.

The Council of Churches expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and injured and appealed to the Almighty for a just retribution for the evil done.
