The clergyman deliberately remained in his hometown to help those who were unable to leave. He regularly traveled to Pavlohrad for food and medicine, covering more than 130 kilometers, and brought aid to his fellow villagers.

The pastor’s daughter, Daria, said that shortly before the tragedy, her father evacuated wounded Mirnograd residents to Pavlohrad, purchased humanitarian aid kits, and returned to continue serving and supporting people. Leonid last called his wife on September 19. The next day, while returning from visiting a lonely grandfather, he was hit by a Russian drone. His injuries were fatal.

Due to the lack of access to the local cemetery, the burial took place in the yard. Volunteer Andriy Malov recalled:

“He was loved in Ocheretine. People waited for his arrival. He always came even to the most dangerous areas — in a suit and red tie.”

In early October, Pastor Leonid would have turned 70.
