Massive Russian attack: 9 people killed in Kyiv, more than 80 wounded across the country – Zelensky

On the night of April 24, the Russian army launched a massive combined attack on the territory of Ukraine, using missiles of various types and kamikaze drones. The main target of the attack was Kyiv. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, at least 9 people were killed in the capital, and more than 80 people were injured in different regions of the country.

“Unfortunately, 9 people were killed in Kyiv. More than 80 people were injured throughout Ukraine. Rescue operations are underway, rubble is being cleared. There is a lot of destruction,” the President said in his address, announcing the shortening of his visit to South Africa and his immediate return to Ukraine.

According to Ihor Klymenko, 10 people may still be under the rubble. As for the ninth victim, who was reported earlier, these were the remains of bodies that were also sent for examination.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force Command, the enemy attacked in a combined manner, using ballistics, cruise missiles, guided missiles, Shahed kamikaze drones and imitation drones. In total, 215 air targets were recorded, of which 112 were destroyed by Ukrainian air defense forces:

Kyiv and Kyiv region, as well as Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovs’k, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, and Khmelnytskyi regions, suffered the most. In Kyiv, residential buildings in the Sviatoshynskyi district were hit, and search and rescue operations are underway. According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, 77 people have sought medical assistance.

Context

President Zelensky noted that Ukraine has been in compliance with the ceasefire proposed by the United States for 44 days, but Russia continues to ignore international agreements and kill civilians.

“Russia does not stop, and there is still no proper pressure on it for these crimes. The world must see the truth and react decisively,” the Head of State emphasized.
