Russia attacked Ukrainian cities for more than 12 hours, leaving behind casualties and widespread destruction. At least four people were killed and more than 70 were injured. Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, and several regions were the most affected.
Casualties and destruction
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that eight sites of damage were recorded in the capital. Among the dead were a 12-year-old girl who was trapped under a concrete slab, as well as a nurse and a patient at the Institute of Cardiology. Another person died as a result of a strike on a civilian facility.
In Zaporizhzhia, more than 30 residents of a high-rise building were injured, including three children. In Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Sumy, and Odesa regions, rescuers extinguished numerous fires. During the work in the capital, a structure collapsed, injuring two State Emergency Service employees.
In total, more than 100 civilian objects were damaged. The police have already received more than 700 reports from citizens about destroyed or damaged property.
In Kyiv, the Institute of Cardiology suffered significant damage as a result of a rocket and drone attack, with two people killed, according to Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.
“Separately, regarding the Institute of Cardiology. Two people were killed here. Significant damage to the facility, a striking example of a war crime committed by the terrorist state of Russia,” he wrote in a Telegram post on Sunday.
Shelling of churches and chaplain’s house
In the Kyiv region, the house of volunteer chaplain Mark Sergeyev suffered significant damage. He, his wife, and their three children miraculously survived:
“I am truly happy to be alive. It is God’s mercy — the rocket fell four meters away. The house is gone, two cars are gone, but the children are alive, and we are all safe.”
In Vyshneve, debris from a downed drone fell on the grounds of the Salvation Church, damaging cars and breaking windows.
The house of prayer of the Baptist Church “Spiritual Revival” was also damaged—the windows there were completely smashed.
The massive strikes by the Russian Federation prove once again that the shelling of civilian objects and churches is deliberate terrorism against the peaceful population of Ukraine and a gross war crime.
